Peroneal Nerve

Peroneal Nerve

Just above the popliteal fossa the siatic nerve divides into the tibial nerve and the common peroneal nerve. The latter swings around the head of the fibula to the anterior aspect of the legk giving off the musculocutaneous branceh and continuing as the deep peroneal nerve. Branches of latter supply the dorsiflexors of the foot and toes and carry sensory fibers form the dorsum of the foot and lateral aspect of the lower half of the leg.

Common Peroneal Nerve:

1. Superficial peroneal nerve:
a. Sensory branch to: Lateral cutaneous, Medial cutaneous
b. Motor to: Peroneus Longus and Peroneus brevis

2. Deep Peroneal:
a. Sensory to Dorsal digital cutaneous nerve
b. Motor to: tibialis anterior, extensor digitorum longus, extensor hallucis longus, peroneus teritus, extensor digitorum brevis, first dorsal interosseous
